On March 28, 2009, in a ceremony in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, Malalai Joya received the International Anti-discrimination Award 2009. She was nominated for this award by the Dutch Unity is Strength Foundation. With this award she is honored for her courage and persistence in her struggle for liberty and women rights in Afghanistan.
